The makers of Kinsman Rakia and HighWheel Beerworks are bringing back their yearly ice cream social on August 4 from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Dorcol Distilling & Brewing Co. will host a chefs vying for the title of Official Ice Cream of San Antonio using Kinsman Rakia, an apricot brandy. Admission is $10 and includes ice cream samples for the night from each competitor.
This year's batch of chefs includes pastry chef Jess Perez from Barbaro, Geronimo Lopez of Botika, RJ Ocampo with Creative Eats, Ernie Bradley of Kimura, Amie Brown and Andrew Lopez from The Hoppy Monk, Pedro Cuellar and Ana Cabrera with Liberty Bar, and the culinary teams from Rosella and Piatti.
Attendees will vote on People's Choice, while a panel of judges (food writer Ron Bechtol, SA2020 President and CEO Molly Cox, San Antonio Current’s food and nightlife editor Jessica Elizarraras, Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales, H-E-B Director of Insights and the First Lady of San Antonio Erika Prosper, and San Antonio Cocktail Conference Executive Director Cathy Siegel) will choose a critic's winner, or Helado Borracho, the 2018 Official Ice Cream of San Antonio.
Proceeds from tickets, available at the door, will partially benefit Contemporary Art Month.
