Flavor File: SA's First Cereal Bar And More

A slew of restaurant and bar openings are going to make for an interesting fall. Let's start things off with the opening of Jeret Peña's latest bar, The Old Main Association at 2512 N. Main Ave. (inside the former Beat Street Coffee Co.). The space, designed in part by Steve Martín and graphic designer Jamie Stolarski, is sleek, moody and compact. Though it didn't lose any space after renovations, the new setting immediately felt that much more cozy. Expect to find hits from menus at Stay Golden Social House and The Brooklynite, alongside a reasonably-priced happy hour and San Anto-specific foods prepared by chef Lorenzo Morales. The concha burger ($11) is an early hit and the peach cobbler milkshake ($6) is dreamy.

Joseph E. Coffee (1111 S. St. Mary's St., 210-451-1822) held its soft opening this First Friday with a lineup of coffee (and iced and hot Reggie), cold brew, nitro coffee, soft drinks, hot cocoa, chocolate milk and a full-service, build-your-own cereal bar. My inner child just squealed. Hours will vary during the launch.

Pizza lovers can look forward to finding Halston Connella (formerly with Citrus, Cured), hopping around town with his brick pizza oven in tow with his Rebel Pizza concept. After two pop-ups last weekend at Southtown 101 and Rosella, pizza fans will find Connella at Folc (226 E. Olmos Drive) for Monday Night Football with pizza, wings and sliders.

Winos have a new downtown haven at Nectar Wine Bar and Ale House (214 Broadway), which quietly opened last month. The shop, which is gearing up for weekly wine tasting events, will host a grand opening with neighboring business La Boulangerie and Schakolad Chocolate Factory on September 24.

Finally, keep your eyes on Steve Mahoney's latest twin offerings — the Irish-focused Francis Bogside and Brigid at 803 S. St. Mary's St., 210-445-8870. Helmed by bar manager Christine Hill and chef Chris Carlson, the separate bar and restaurant held quite soft openings last weekend.
