Fischer & Wieser’s Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce, responsible for the disappearance of untold pounds of cream cheese (it’s also fantastic with chicken, but I’ve yet to try the company’s suggestion to add the sweetspicy- smoky condiment to margaritas), turns 10 this year. Through Labor Day, the tuna at Water Street Oyster Bar are giving their lives for koi at the Brackenridge Park Japanese Tea Garden — aka the Japanese Sunken Garden; see The Urban Geographer, June 28-July 4, 2006 for details about the planned restoration of this San Antonio treasure. The Alamo Heights restaurant (7500 Broadway at Nacogdoches) will donate a portion of the proceeds from each order of Panko-crusted yellow-tail Tea Garden Tuna ($16.99 and seared medium rare) to a Kash for Koi fund that will be used to repopulate the gardens’ ponds. Mollusks and crustaceans give it up, too, 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, when Water Street hosts a fundraiser in the Marlin Room, where koi will make a special aquarium appearance along with former mayor and San Antonio Parks Foundation President Lila Cockrell. H-E-B made the Environmental Protection Agency’s list of Top Ten retail users of green power for the second quarter of 2006. The SA-based company’s Austin locations get a hunk of their megawatt-hours from wind and biogas sources through Austin Energy’s GreenChoice Program. According to the grocer, it is the top retail purchaser of alternative energy sources in Texas. Also, through October 1 each H-E-B store is competing in a company-wide contest to achieve the greatest reduction in energy use. Employees in winning stores will receive a $100 bonus.
