Get your chopsticks out, kids. Ron Bechtol's glowing review of Tang Street gives us another Chinese dining option in an otherwise eggroll-lacking city.
Here are some options if you've got a hankering for great Chinese:
Sichuan Cuisine (2347 NW Military Highway): This one's for the adventurous gourmands. As Bechtol put it in his 2011 review, "Sliced pig's ear in hot chili oil? Bring it on. Duck tongues showered in jalapenos? Can't get enough. Crispy pork intestine with dried pepper? Where have you been all my life?" Also available are delicious dim sum treats, most of which are under $5.
Golden Wok (8822 Wurzbach Road, 1410 Loop 410 W.): Sometimes you want tiny pockets of deliciousness in your mouth (or more often than not, if you're me). Enter Golden Wok's extensive dim sum menu, which helped propel it to 2013's Best Chinese according to Current readers. The hargau, tapioca skin stuffed with shrimp, are a personal favorite. Visit the Wurzbach location on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m.-2:3o p.m. for a dim sum house feel. Pick your poison from carts brought around to each table.
Hsiu Yu (8338 Broadway): Talk about an institution. After a wobbly start in '83, the family owned and operated Hsiu Yu has gained quite the following within the '09 crowd and then some. Go here for the eggrolls, made fresh daily.
Hot Joy (1127 S Saint Marys St.): Why pick just one Asian country when you can have un poco de todo? For those who don't know the drill, Hot Joy is located inside the Monterey and is open only from 6-10 p.m. Sundays and Mondays. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but follow them on Facebook for off-menu Chinese specials.
