That just goes to show the power of H-E-B.
According to the new study from Dunnhumby, a customer data science company, shoppers gave the No. 4 spot to the San Antonio-based chain, whose only non-Texas locations are in Mexico. The report surveyed 7,000 U.S. households online, comparing 56 chains from across the country.
Trader Joe's came out on top, with Costco and Amazon coming in second and third, respectively. Yes, Amazon now counts as a grocery store.
That left H-E-B with fourth place.
"H-E-B is incredibly proud of our Partners who focus every day on showing our customers Texas hospitality, both in store and online," the company said in a statement.
The super-Texan chain got nods for its well-placed product selection, impeccable customer service and value perception, according to the report. Although customers felt the H-E-B experience lacked speed (maybe they asked the folks shopping the day before a major holiday), those surveyed prized H-E-B's wide range of products and low prices.
The Dunnhumby report comes a month after an Eater writer claimed that H-E-B is the "cultiest cult grocer in America." The Texas-shaped products and pride apparent in its branding may just be why H-E-B beat out other so many other chains.
