To quote Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys II, "Shit just got real": The owners of Mixtli have finally announced their next venture, Mezcaleria Mixtli at 5315 McCullough. San Anto's first mezcaleria will carry 40 mezcales to start along with Mexican and San Antonio craft beers, Mexican wines and other Mexican spirits including sotol, charanda and tequila.
The bar will go inside the current location of Hilmy Productions at the Yard on McCullough. Jesse Torres, who serves as mixologist for Mixtli dinners among other duties, will jump on board as co-owner, beverage director and manager of Mezcaleria Mixtli; while Mixtli owners Rico Torres and Diego Galicia will crank out botanas out of the mezcaleria including, "chapulines, tostadas, ceviches, charcuterie, fruits with chile, empanadas, tostadas, chicharrones," Galicia said.
The tentative opening date is sometime in January (likely before the San Antonio Cocktail Conference).
"We have a huge vision for this place, Aviary-style kitchen, old meets new techniques, that all tie back to the Mixtli concept," Galicia said.
