A collection of owners make up the group behind the latest, El Búho, a sports bar slated for a Friday evening opening at 2710 N. St. Mary's St.

It'll be the ninth bar on the St. Mary's Strip for the Delgado family that's brought San Antonio vibes to area since they opened Hi-Tones.

Melanie Martinez, who has bartended for the majority of those bars, will come on as a partner for El Búho, which means owl in Spanish. The bar, which Martinez described as a vintage sports bar, will include a cantina-style patio out back with wooden patio tables and metal cerveza toppers. Two food trucks will fill the front along with more tables and chairs and a giant beer pong set she hopes will draw in the St. Mary's Strip crowd.

Inside, five flat screens and all sorts of sports memorabilia fills the space. Expect to see trading cards table toppers, a signed Ginobili jersey, and several more Spurs artifacts (like the front page spread of the San Antonio Express-News following the teams first Championship win in 1999).

The remainder of the decor is made up of all manners of owls from across the globe.

Beer will be available on draft, by the pint and in pitchers, and a few classic cocktails will be offered. House cocktails were still being tinkered with as of press time.

Though weather delayed the opening of the bar by a week, El Búho's grand opening will take place Friday — rain or shine.

Hours will be 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with Martinez hoping to make El Búho a Sunday Funday spot in the coming weeks.
