The night before Ramen Bar at Cherrity Bar's grand opening celebration, one of its employees was injured in a hit-and-run. Samantha Flores, was struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle home near 410 and Nacogdoches Road.
Though Flores' prognosis is better than in the immediate days following the incident, the road to recovery will be long.
To help with Flores' medical expenses, the family of restaurants owned by Chef Michael Sohocki are pitching in with ongoing donations such as $2 donation from every Parma pizza sold at Il Forno; $2 donation from every miso ramen bowl sold (at both the Ramen Bar at Cherrity Bar and at the downtown Kimura location); $5 bandana sale at Kimura downtown (materials donated & crafted individually by sushi chef Jon Reyes).
On Thursday, Cherrity Bar will host a Giving Love Back to Sam Fundraiser (#givinglovebacktosam) with $25 sushi plates by Restaurant Gwendolyn's chef Andreas Imhof, sushi chef Jon Reyes and Embassy chef Ian Lanphear; a silent auction with art pieces donated from local artists and donated in-home chef dinners for six from chef Brian West, chef Ernest Bradley, and chef Jason Garcia. Proceeds from a Dorcol's Betty on tap will be donated as will proceeds from a signature cocktail named "210 Cyclists” of bourbon with honey, lemon and mint. Additionally, $2 will be donated from every bowl of miso sold. The fundraiser will run 5 to 10:30 p.m. that evening.
On Saturday, $1 will be donated for every ramen bowl sold at Tenko Ramen.
