There's a good buzz on at Flying Saucer 'round six on a Monday evening. It might always be this way (and the buzz might often mount to a roar), but I prefer to think that the crowd had something to do with $3 pint night. Or pint day, as the place opens at 11 a.m. Why settle for a few, paltry happy hours when you can spend a day drinking your way through the nearly four dozen draught beers on tap? (We do suggest that you take at least a month of Mondays if this is your goal, however. Texas brews are three bucks on Sunday and there are way fewer of them, so a one-day marathon might be made of it.) As an only occasional beer drinker, I threw a dart — and it landed on a wheat beer. The New Belgium Sunshine Wheat from Colorado is a light and not especially effervescent version of the style, but it does have an intriguing floral quality — lavender, I'd say — that was complemented by an accompanying orange wedge. Surprisingly good in its own right, and also complementary, was a $4.99 order of Rocket Tots, a spicier, lighter version of the sometimes-leaden tater classic. The enhanced tots should work with several of the draughts, for that matter; I think I'll aim for IPAs next time I'm in the 'hood.
