There's A New Face At Dorcol Distilling Co.

The latest face at Dorcol is also wildly familiar.

The trifecta is complete again, at least physically, as Dorcol Distilling Co. (1902 S. Flores St.) has found a new barkeep. Valentino Lucio, previously with the San Antonio Express-News for 10 years, will replace Nick Kenna starting tonight, June 4.

Lucio will focus on learning the expansive drink menu, while also helping owners Chris Mobley and Boyan Kalusevic expand their brand throughout bars in the state and beyond through blogging, recipe creation and marketing. The trio has a bit of history together as Lucio was the first to break the story of the Southtown distillery's opening. Lucio will also help share upcoming changes to the spirit lineup, which mean Kinsman rakia is getting a baby brother or sister soon and probably a few cousins.

As a former co-worker of Lucio, this is A) the most meta blog post I've ever written, and B) a totally great move for the family man with a palate (he's a homebrew nerd and is taking to cocktails nicely), who happens to live less than half a mile from the distillery.

"Valentino completes us. His hair is great," Kalusevic said. "I'll finally know what product he uses." This is, after all, the same guy who posted a casual encounters Craigslist ad during their search for a bartender.

We'll learn more about the move in next week's Current, but for now, go give Lucio a hard time at the bar from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday. Consider this a practice round as Dorcol gears up to host a Second Saturday opening reception of photographs by artist Jorge Villarreal on Saturday, June 13 from 7 to 10 p.m.
