May is, apparently, national burger month. While it’s debatable whether such a culinary staple truly deserves a month of feting (whither lasagna month, or taco month, or blueberry muffin month?), screw it, we’ll take any excuse to nosh on a high-fat, cholesterol-busting, all-American fave — Fries with that.
If you feel the need to salute the obsession of J. Wellington Wimpy (of Popeye fame), there’s a few ways to get your grub on. Photo fanatics should check out Whataburger’s month-long Instagram contest. Check their social media pages for themes, and then tag your Instagam submission with @Whataburger and #Whataburger. The winner will receive free Whataburger fare for a year.
Perhaps you fancy yourself above competing for free fast food. Well, why don’t you get your high-falutin’ ass to downtown’s The Palm? On Mondays in May during lunch service, they offer their prime steak burgers and fries for $8.37, topped with your choice of fancy-pants fixin’s like prosciutto de Parma, Danish blue cheese, and wild mushrooms. Print out the coupon at thepalm.com/BurgerMondays#certificate.
Or you could just be lazy-slash-middle-class, and celebrate by sampling some favorite local burgers, as chosen by the Current staff.
