This Saturday, I drove all the way out to Narnia — or rather 1604 and Bandera — and picked up a delicious bun bowl with 10-hour brisket via Singh's Vietnamese, across from Hills and Dales. If you haven't tried the freshly made Saigon egg rolls (which I couldn't resist eating during my drive back into my hood), you're most definitely missing out.
The rest of the weekend included a stop at Mark Wildcat Garcia's burger "squat" inside The Bee's Knees Catering kitchen on Saturday night. Neighboring bar TBA provided a less smoky shelter form the cold, and I'm never one to pass on a cocktail made by head bartender Joshua Brock. The smoked mac 'n' cheese bologna, with the fried egg, natch, was a meaty undertaking, while the "buttstuff chicken sandwich" was an ode to Chik-fil-A's take with less bigotry. The other burgers cranked out of the wee kitchen looked plenty delicious — and dangerous. Looking forward to more pop-ups in the space in the near future.
