So we know David Lynch doesn’t think you’re really watching a film when it’s playing on your iPhone — a sentiment Critical Darling tends to sympathize with — but then is David Lynch really making a film when he shoots on a cheap Sony digital? Yes, these times they are a-changin’ (yay technology!). Changing with them are our film festivals, now catering to the third screen.
SXSW, for its part, is sponsoring the 5th SXSWclick festival, “a year-round initiative created to showcase short-form storytelling via mobile devices and the web.” Submit your under-10-minute film — doc, animation, music video, what have you — by June 13 and you could win moviemaking and tech goodies in addition to the opportunity to screen at next year’s SXSW Film Festival.
Critical Darling is nothing less than psyched to view the top placing entrants in the “What the F*#!?” category (South By may not be able to print it, but I can: Fuck), where you experimental and machinima filmmakers should be submitting your work.
