Stepping in for a vacationing Critical Darling this week, is — a sweetheart in his own right — the CineSnob, who just returned home from a screening of local filmmaker Brett Mauser’s independent film The Innocent Killers at the Alamo Drafthouse. Innocent Killers is the first of 10 films that will make up the Innocence Saga.
CineSnob predicts that 90 percent of the Saga might actually end up being entertaining for more than just Mauser & Co.’s close friends and family, who sold out Sunday night’s screening to cheer for Jade Esteban Estrada, overacting in drag.
Whatever you do with the next nine, Brett, don’t put a bullet into Matthew Jasso’s head. He’s a David Schwimmer-Ray Romano hybrid who’s worthy of more screen time (just as long as he gets that damn lollipop out of his mouth. Who do you think you are, Mike White in Chuck & Buck?).
Early registration for the 8th annual 48 Hour Film Project is less than two weeks away. This year, 70 cities from across the world will participate. San Antonio’s contributions to the moviemaking marathon will screen August 8-10. Visit 48hourfilm.com for the latest.
If you need me, I’ll be up here on my pedestal.
