SA Film Slam 05.02, and Slab Cinema at La Tuna/Planet

SA Film Slam '05 #2

The 11th SA Film Slam, sponsored by the local chapter of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers and Another Foolish Gig Productions, is upon us, Saturday, May 7 from 8pm-12am at the Apollo Playhouse, 1216 West Avenue. That means it's time for anyone with an idea, regardless of its quality, to transfer it from fever-induced delusional nightmare into quality amateur film. Local filmmakers can email [email protected] to register, then show up at the event with their work in VHS or DVD formats. Attendees also can peruse Jaime Ledezma and Jamie Castillo's "The Other Dimension" art show, and enjoy music by The Dawn of Stereo. Admission is $5 or $3 for participants. For more information, call 694-4677.

Screenings on the Slab

The Lone Ranger
Dir. Stuart Heisler (1956)

The outdoor film series Screenings on the Slab, sponsored by Planet Of the Tapes, El Sol Studios, saevents.org, Clay Street Market, and La Tuna, kicks off the summer season at dusk on Thursday, May 5, with The Lone Ranger, starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. The Lone Ranger and Tonto, must put an end to a war between ranchers and Indians. Light on story and heavy on action, the film is everything a mid-'50s Western is supposed to be. The Slab is located at Probandt and Cevallos, across from La Tuna. Admission is free. Bring chairs or blankets.
