The low-down on this week’s premieres
The most anticipated remake of the year, King Kong, opens nationwide Wednesday, December 14. Like the 1933 original starring Fay Wray and Robert Armstrong, Kong follows moviemaker Carl Denham (Jack Black), lead actress Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts), and screenwriter Jack Driscoll (Adrian Brody) to the remote Skull Island where they are scheduled to begin shooting a film. While there, the group learns of the legendary Kong, a giant gorilla, who quickly takes a liking to Ann’s beauty after she is offered to him as a sacrifice by the island’s natives. The crew underestimates the strength of Kong when they decide to ship the big ape back to New York for commerical exploitation. The new film, directed by Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), is clocked at three hours and eight minutes.
With an all-star cast, including Claire Danes (Shopgirl), Diane Keaton (Something’s Gotta Give), Rachel McAdams (The Notebook), and Luke Wilson (Old School), The Family Stone reunites when Everett Stone (Dermot Mulroney) brings his uptight girlfriend (Sarah Jessica Parker) home for the Christmas holiday.
In Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic, the comedian hits on all topics from sex to race to politics `see review`. She even sings a song with the lyrics, “I love you like bees love honey/ I love you like Jews love money/ I love you like Asians are good in math ...” The film opens exclusively at the Santikos Bijou Theater December 16.

Opening exclusively at Regal Fiesta 16, the 1975 film The Passenger starring Jack Nicholson is re-released for a new generation, this time in a rare director’s cut. The film tells the story of David Locke (Nicholson), a reporter who travels to North Africa to cover the guerrilla freedom-fighters.
