What do Fellini’s 8 1/2, Scorsese’s Goodfellas, and some jag-off’s Howard the Duck have in common? Would you believe they were all written, shot, and edited in less than 48 hours? If so, I’m not sure how you even managed to read and comprehend the last two sentences, because that’s just dumb. Even poor, poor Howard — who gets an ass-plucking in the inaugural edition of Cinema Obscura (p. 33) — wasn’t shat out that quickly.
San Antonio filmmakers, however, will get the chance to do what Fellini couldn’t when the 48 Hour Film Project returns to San Antonio August 8 -10. The completed films can be no longer than seven minutes, though, so don’t plan on cranking out the long-awaited 8 1/2 2: Guido Gets Busy. The no-doubt-brilliant fruits of this prematurely induced labor will be screened at Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes Wednesday August 13. Go to 48film.com for more information.
