S'Nuff Film

So I’m not saying for sure that Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne is a faithful S’Nuff Film fan, but after I mentioned his new film, Christmas on Mars, in last week’s column, the local Alamo Drafthouse (1255 SW Loop 410, drafthouse.com/westlakes) scheduled screenings for 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Sunday, October 19. Tickets are $8.50. The title says Christmas, but I’ve got a hunch that the movie —shot on makeshift sets at Coyne’s Oklahoma City home and featuring members of the band dressed as aliens and astronauts — will turn out to be the best inappropriately titled Halloween film since It’s the Great Blumpkin, Charlie Brown.

Distract your mind’s eye from picturing that by making mental plans to attend local amateur-film website vlog4reel.com’s launch party 7-9 p.m. Friday, October 17, at Plan B (8123 Broadway), and Slab Cinema’s (myspace.com/slabcinema ) free outdoor showing of Ghostbusters beginning 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16, at HemisFair Park (200 S. Alamo). And if you still, against all odds, have an appetite, remember the Drafthouse will also be showing next week’s Cinema Obscura pick, Monster Squad Saturday, October 18 at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $8.50 and include a pancake breakfast.
