The Josiah Youth Media Festival is accepting entries for its third-annual film fest from now until June 1. The festival is open to all filmmakers born after June 1, 1988, and entries can be no longer than 20 minutes. The grand prize is $500 credit at B&H Photo & Video, so get to the post office, or go to urban15.org/film for more information.
If you’re already drinking age, or you just lack the ability to create, drown your sorrows in some free filmic comfort food at Café Cinema, sponsored by Mad Hatter’s Tea House (106 Auditorium Circle), running from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, April 3. Several short films, including Stephen Acevedo’s locally shot “Shot” and the infinitely useful-sounding “What to Do in a Zombie Attack,” will precede feature Dr. S: The Movie. And the free screenings of poorly titled films continues 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, with Slab Cinema’s presentation of spaghetti western Death Rides a Horse at La Tuna (100 Probandt).
Also on April 7, the downtown branch of the San Antonio Public Library (600 Soledad) will screen the 1966 adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s book-burning dystopia Fahrenheit 451. Don’t get any ideas.
