That's a wrap

The low-down on this week's premieres

It's either time to cut the three-tier cake with the romantic comedy The Wedding Date or cut someone's head off, probably with a blunt object, in the horror flick Boogeyman. Decide on your personal level of hopeless romanticism.

For those of you in the mood for champagne toasts and chiffon veils, The Wedding Date vows to make it a rendezvous to remember. Starring Will & Grace's Debra Messing and My Best Friend's Wedding's Dermot Mulroney, Date reverses gender roles and enters a bizarro world. Pretty woman Kat Ellis (Messing) hires a male escort (Mulroney) to pose as her boyfriend and accompany her to her sister's wedding so she can make her ex-fiancé jealous. Of course, the checkbook romance soon becomes more and Kat hopes to land on her feet before any of her family finds out the truth about her hired boy-toy.

It's too hard to believe that Messing, named one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" by People Magazine in 2002, would need to pay someone to go out with her. But let's give the film the benefit of the doubt and just say as long as Mulroney doesn't get into a bubblebath - or leather kneehighs for that matter - we'll say "I do."

Boogeyman - it might have been the Cucuy for San Antonians - follows the same storyline as 2003's Darkness Falls as a man (Barry Watson) must return home to face his supernatural childhood nemesis. Produced by The Evil Dead director Sam Raimi, Boogeyman also stars Emily Deschanel, little sister of Zooey (All the Real Girls), and Xena's Lucy Lawless. Who's going to be scared of an evil entity with a warrior princess on your side? Ayiyiyiyiyiyi!
