5 Shows to See this Weekend

Backtrack (Friday, July 11)

Long Island's Backtrack in action

In the midst of the post-hardcore wasteland, classic hardcore is trying to rise from the ashes like a punk rock phoenix. Backtrack is doing exactly what their name promises, going back in time to bring back what punk was in the good old days of Black Flag and the Circle Jerks, before the emo/screamo phase took over. So, you can mosh to your hearts content, or even do the pogo if you don’t want to get too rowdy. With Harm's Way, Expire, Bitter End, SUBURBAN SCUM, DOWNPRESSER, Iron Mind and Will to Die. $20, 4pm, thekorova, 107 E Martin, (210) 226-5070 —Shannon Sweet

The Please Help Tour Kickoff (Saturday, July 12)

Phil Luna of The Please Help

Phillip Luna, brain behind The Please Help, is a San Antonian, a multi-instrumentalist and a visual artist who has been active in the community for nearly three decades. He has fronted the hardcore/hard-rock band Worm, the psychedelic goth-grunge outfit 1.0 and the space-rock group Shit City Dream Girls. His latest, and arguably his greatest, project the Please Help finds Luna relaxing into a kind of comfort within chaos, at peace with the unrest and longing that attend all of our lives. Joe Trevino of Ex machine, Fear Snakeface and blues-rockers the River Barons will join Luna and The Please Help for the tour kickoff. $5, 9pm, The Ten Eleven, 1011 Avenue B, (210) 320-9080—James Courtney
