Godspeed! You Black Emperor
For folks who don’t know, Godspeed! You Black Emperor (Godspeed for short), got big in the mid-to-late '90s for their haunting, epic 20+ minute movements that showed up in films like, 28 Days Later (which arguably has the most beautiful cinematography of any zombie movie ever).Your über indie music friend most likely had 2000’s Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To The Heaven in a binder of burnt CDs next to artists like Mogwai, Mono and A Silver Mt. Zion – bands that would help lead the post-rock movement in a darker direction, in contrast to bands like Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Rós. Oh, and they also have a new album out, Luciferian Towers, released in September, which is oddly way happier sounding compared to their ominous, slow-moving catalog. $25, 8pm, Paper Tiger, 2410 N.
