We just got word that Morrissey actually made it to the Alamo City this time around but will not be playing the Tobin Center tonight due to "health concerns." As you well know by now, this isn't the first or even second time the sad boy mega star has cancelled on us this year. Yes, it hurts.
Here's what we know: At his most recent performance this Monday in Tucson, Arizona, the Pope of Mope walked off stage halfway through the track "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and didn't return to finish out the performance. His band later reportedly told the crowd that Morrissey's voice was "shot."
Basically, Morrissey fans were already cringing heading into Wednesday, just waiting for word that the SA show would be scrapped. This afternoon we got the official word from Morrissey's tour:
“Following health concerns stemming from Morrissey’s appearance in Tucson, it is with great sadness that tonight's sold out engagement in San Antonio at the Tobin Center is cancelled to allow him to fully recuperate. Refunds are available at point of purchase.”
So we've now been stood up thrice. Moz fans are used to the drama, inured to the heartbreak, and will no doubt recover with their cult-like obsession in tact. Whether venues will continue to book a serial no-show is a whole other matter.
