Considered to be the cornerstone of teenage night life for many San Antonians from the 1950s to the '70s, Patio Andaluz was also the jumping off point for many of San Antonio's most well known bands. On any given Saturday night West Side Sound pioneers Sunny Ozuna and his Sunglows, Rudy Tee & the Reno Bops, Little Henry & the Laveers, The Royal Jesters and the Garibays, to name a few of the iconic musicians that make up the world famous sound, emanating from the city's south and west sides.
The mix of Black R&B, doo wop, soul, folk music and the burgeoning rock 'n' roll sound, performed by San Antonio's hybrid of ethnicities – kids just looking for a good time – ricocheted off of the walls of the venue, past bodies swaying in time and into the night air.
The opportunity to relive these sultry San Antonio nights is now coming to the Tobin Center. The Patio Andaluz Reunion will be bringing none other than Sunny Ozuna of the Sunliners and the Sunglows, Melba Marez, Patsy Torres and Rebecca Valadez (paying tribute to the only San Antonio all-girl group, the Dreamliners), Archie Bell of the Drells, Rudy Tee Gonzales, Jimmy Charles, Sonny Ace, Ernie Garibay and other mainstays of the famous hall near South Colorado and West Commerce back together for an evening of dancing, cutting up and reliving some of the best memories and music of the city's history.
