Prettiest Eyes
LA’s Prettiest Eyes makes music that is a swampy amalgam of styles, all converging around a messy, proto-punk core. The three-piece plays fast and evokes emotion with wild abandon, but is equally capable of settling into a psychedelic groove or smearing a shimmering mountain of muck with a bright synth passage. That Castleface Records, a label run by members of Thee Oh Sees, released Prettiest Eyes’ most recent album, 2017’s excellent Pools, goes a long way in describing the group’s sound.

Opening for the act, ATX’s Rattlesnake Milk, no stranger to the SA scene for those who have been paying any attention, will offer up its cow-punk, no-wave country (with a twinge of what I’d call psychobilly) sound. Paired together, the two acts make for a show that should be boiling over with restless energy and sweaty-ass guitar licks.

$5-$7, 9pm, Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com.
