Host to literally every kind of show you could think of — from metal, to hip-hop, punk rock, poetry slams, and literally any type of music under the sun —  The Korova is closed for good.

Earlier this week, shows began to get canceled and rumors started to circulate about the venue, but with no real word on what exactly was happening until Friday.

Earlier today The Korova confirmed the rumors and posted a message thanking everyone who had been involved over the years. Despite efforts to get operations back up and running, the spot said the space would no longer be operating as a music venue.

"There was a lot of back debt from before I took over two and a half years ago," venue owner and operator Angel Castorena told the Current. "We’ve been trying to maintain it and stay ahead of it – and it just got to the point where it was just too much ... It was just at that point where we decided "Let’s go ahead and step back."

Castorena said that the space may become a high-scale dance club, but would not confirm who would be running it or when build-out would take place.

"Eight years as a live music venue is a very long run and we're proud of what we did," said Castorena. "We weren't everyone's favorite venue but a lot of people loved us for what we did, and I think San Antonio's in great hands now for live music."
