Topo Chica: every bit as effervescent as the drink that inspired its name.
File this one under just bonkers enough to be badass, folks. Masterminded by the twisted and delightful music-curatorial force Mondo Nation, Lollapalooza 94' is just what you might think it is from the name.
For this random one-off a bevy of adventurous local music acts, some in various mutated forms, will play period-appropriate sets of music by some of the choicer artists that graced the stage(s) of Lollapalooza’s fourth year, back when it was still a touring festival. Why 1994? Why the fuck not?
Artists on this special bill include Junkie as Green Day, The Grasshopper Lies Heavy as Guided by Voices, Topo Chica as L7, Ellis Redon as Smashing Pumpkins, Harvey McLaughlin as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Mutant and Pinko as Beastie Boys, The Red Legs as George Clinton, The Rich Hands as The Boo Radleys, New Berlin as A Tribe Called Quest, Yoshimoto as Girls Against Boys, Chris Conde (full disclosure: he’s a
Current writer) and Heatless the Monster as Cypress Hill, and more. Let’s just say if this is what peak 1990s nostalgia is looking like these days, we are here for it.
$7-$10, Sat Apr 7, 4pm, Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com.
