The Pearl, in partnership with San Antonio Jazz legend Brent “Doc” Watkins, is bringing the The Summer Dance Hall Series back. Taking place every Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. (July 6 to August 24) at the Pearl Stables, the free concert series will feature some of South Texas' best dance hall bands and will be sponsored by Shiner in support of the Boot Campaign.
The Boot Campaign is a regional effort in conjunction with the brewery's "Toast Our Troops" mission, with the aim of promoting support for America's military community; drawing attention to the complex challenges the men and women of the service face during and after deployment; and provide aid and assistance to military personnel, past and present, and their families.
The musicians in this year's lineup, curated by Watkins, himself, reflect the proud history of South Texas dance hall music, and with such a broad spectrum of styles and artists there's sure to be something for every kind of two-stepper and boot-scooter. Even the wallflowers intent on sitting back, sipping a cold beer and enjoying the tunes are sure to be pleased. From polka, jazz and conjunto to honky tonk and salsa, the region's cultural diversity and proud heritage is represented in the 2016 roster.
The schedule for the Dance Hall Series is as follows:
July 6 - Doc Watkins & his Orchestra
July 13 - George Chambers & the Country Gentlemen
July 20 - Johnny P. & the Wiseguys
July 27 - Jose Amador and Natiao Salsa
August 3 - Santiago Jiménez
