It’s been five long years since Mojoe emerged with classic.ghetto.soul — a debut album that marked them as S.A.’s great hip-hop hope — as they’ve slowed down their production schedule to let the industry catch up with their old ideas. For example, Mojoe (high-school friends Charles “Easy Lee” Peters and “Tre” Scipio) spent much of last year working the 2006 reissue of classic.ghetto.soul by Matthew Knowles’ Music World Entertainment. But after parting ways with Music World late last year, they started work on a follow-up that’s been in the conceptual stage for four years: Dirty Genes. The first two singles, “My Favorite Cut” and “Carried Away,” suggest that Peters and Scipio have taken the jazzy underpinnings of classic.ghetto.soul and plugged them into club-friendly electronic beats.

Mojoe will celebrate the release of the singles (and the October release of Dirty Genes) with a spate of local activity next week: An August 15 exclusive listening party, an August 16 open video shoot at Bar 11, an August 17 private video shoot, and their participation in the 98.5 Beat Bash that night at the AT&T Center.
