LONESTAR PAVILION RIVE WALK FOXTROT
While it’s become common for respected alt-rock bands to bypass San Antonio in favor of Austin, Wilco’s current two-and-a-half-week tour reverses that trend, with SA the band’s only Texas stop aside from Fort Worth. The tour represents a pregnant pause in recording work for Wilco’s sixth studio album, for which the band has already cut 12 tracks. The sessions are reportedly going swimmingly and the band will resume recording in November, with a release expected in April or May of next year. Expect to hear Jeff Tweedy and company test out new songs such as “Walken” and “Impossible Germany” when they come to Sunset Station’s Lonestar Pavilion (1174 E. Commerce) on Friday, October 13. Showtime is 8 p.m.
MIGHTY RUCKUS
Eldorado Del Rey is in very select company. In fact, Eldorado may be the only musical artist with both a Taco Land gig and an Aerosmith/KISS tour on his résumé. Eldorado achieved both distinctions while a member of the raw, punk-blues band the Porch Ghouls. The Ghouls were “discovered” by Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, who was so taken with them he not only offered them a touring slot, but also recorded their 2003 debut album and released it on his own label, Roman Records.
These days, Eldorado (a Sun Studio tour guide) is scaring away the pesky hellhounds with his new band, a suitably primal Memphis contingent called Ruckus. Eldorado and the Ruckus will grace the Alamo City with their cathartic presence on Thursday, October 12, when they invade Limelight Music and Drinks (2718 N. St. Mary’s). Opening the show will be the can’t-miss San Antonio supergroup, Suzy & The Soul Mix Revue. Fronted by Suzy Bravo, the group also features Mescaleros guitarist Roland De La Cruz, Sexto Sol bassist Eddie Hernandez, and Snowbyrd drummer Manny Castillo. Showtime is 10 p.m.
