The Sound & the Fury

The Aly Tadros and Douglas Jay Boyd show scheduled for Thursday, January 7, at the Republic House, has been moved to the Cove (606 W. Cypress). General manager Alan Jackson confirmed to the Current that Republic House closed last Saturday and that they’re looking for another location, but if we needed more info we’d need to talk to owners Mick and Millie Van Steenburg, who couldn’t be reached for comment by press time.

Another venue casualty is Nightrocker:Live, which closed before it even opened. The announced December 5 opening night turned out to be a free gathering of friends, but zoning issues stopped owner Roland Fuentes from keeping the doors open. “I was given a license to sell alcohol, but now they tell me that the previous bar in that location should not have received a liquor license due to a zoning issue,” he told the Current. Fuentes says he spent $50,000 to open the place, and still pays the monthly $2,000 lease. District 1 Zoning Commissioner Carolyn Kelley told us she will update us on Nightrocker:Live’s status after the commission’s January 5 meeting. — Enrique Lopetegui
