The Sound & The Fury

On February 26, the great Esteban “Steve” Jordan (one of the world’s most influential and versatile accordion players, ever) will be celebrating his 71st birthday at Saluté (10 p.m., 2801 N. St. Mary’s, (210) 732-5307). He’s been playing there every Friday night for years, and if you haven’t seen him before, this show is a must-see.

That same night, Blue Means Go (Carly Garza on vocals and drums, Danny Moriarty on guitar, and Mikey Powell on bass and backing vocals) will return to the Limelight after more than a year, with Egshan and the Offbeats ($5, 2718 N. Saint Mary’s, 735-7775). BMG, who will close the show, will also have T-shirts for sale.

A quick note to those making plans for SXSW: Hip-hop fusion trio ChocQuibTown and electronica fusion band Bomba Estéreo (both from Colombia), along with legendary Mexican rockers Maldita Vecindad, as well as others, will be at Austin’s Antone’s on March 17. Check complete lineups at sxsw.com.
