Alameda Presents Wine and Movie: Is it Really So Strange?

Release Date: 2009-04-29

Just as Slab Cinema takes a week off from its regular screenings, Museo Alameda comes out of nowhere to fill the gap with this intriguing documentary, Is it Really So Strange?, a film about the extraordinary popularity of Morrissey and the Smiths in Latino culture. This film fits amazingly well with the Alameda’s current show Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement. For all the girls who caught grief for wearing black eyeliner and hanging out at Hogwild Records with their “Meat is Murder” T-shirts, consider this moment to be vindication. No word yet if local rockers Girl in a Coma will be on hand for personal testimony, though they probably should be. For more on the Morrissey/Latino nexus, check out Enrique Lopetegui’s article “El Moz” (March 4, 2009) on sacurrent.com. Free, 8-10pm, Museo Alameda,101 S. Santa Rosa, (210) 299-4300
