Commuters who use VIA Metropolitan Transit in Castle Hills are breathing a huge sigh of relief.

You will still be able to catch the bus from the municipality because just 660 residents voted this weekend to retain the service, beating out 443 people who wanted to kick the transportation agency out.

The idea of Castle Hills losing VIA Metro service isn't new. For years, the community has debated whether it should use a half-cent sales tax reserved for the transportation agency to instead fix streets and maintain infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Castle Hills' City Council voted to hold the special election deciding the matter and — thankfully, for those who either have to ride the bus to and from jobs, and for those green-leaning individuals who would prefer that the Alamo City's air quality improve — the voters have spoken.
