According to Priceline.com, downtown SA is the 34th best place to spend New Year’s Eve (we’re somehow right up there with Sydney and L.A.). Additionally, the yearly Celebrate San Antonio event claims to be the largest free New Year’s Eve celebration in Texas. An anticipated 250,000 will have plenty of options once they squeeze through the gates of HemisFair Park. Live music on four stages will range from Philo Beddoe’s ’80s new-wave covers to the Latin stylings of Artie V y Grupo Suave. On the H-E-B Family Stage, the lovely Krystal Diaz (Miss San Antonio 2010) will direct dancers in a ballet folklorico and flamenco-inspired performance. Carnival games will undoubtedly tempt the young at heart, while a reported 50 food and beverage vendors serve snacks and libations as guests get geared up for the spectacular fireworks extravaganza at midnight, courtesy of Valero.
