Blue Box took the top prize a Cocktail Rebel

On Friday, July 24, the San Antonio Current hosted its annual Cocktail bash, Cocktail Rebel. This year's event, located at the McNay Art Museum, was highlighted by the sights and sounds of the 1950's. Lost amongst the Rockabilly-tunes, old-fashioned automobiles, and sea of white T-shirts was the fact that there was an actual cocktail contest! Over a dozen bars participated in the yearly event, but only a few could be chosen as contest winners.

In case you missed out on all the fun — or if you had a little too much fun to remember — here are the winners of the San Antonio Current's cocktail contest:

The "Best Deep Eddy Vodka Cocktail" goes to The Local Bar (600 N. Presa St., 210-267-9885). In the words of the esteemed MC, Lil Wayne, "Yeah this is deep, but I go deeper. Make you lose yourself, and finders keepers". Sorry Weezy, I don't think anybody went deeper with Deep Eddy's than the The Local Bar.

The award for "Best Hendrick's Gin Cocktail" goes to Hidden Dragon (14355 Blanco Rd., 210-444-9495). Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, the best is the Hidden Dragon.

Just because they won this award doesn't make them old; the winner of "Best Old Forester Whiskey Cocktail" goes to Esquire (155 E. Commerce St., 210-222-2521).

Presenting the award for "Best Treaty Oak Rum Cocktail" is Captain Jack Sparrow—the almighty rum judge. "The winner is Brooklynite (516 Brooklyn Ave., 210-444-0707), savvy?"

It's not quite the main event, but it might as well be if you live in San Antonio. The winner of "Best Z Tequila Cocktail" is Frank (1150 S. Alamo St.)
