Part of the Official Selection at Sundance 2009, DIRT! The Movie takes a long hard look at what’s happened to dirt since the arrival of humans some 2 million years ago. One of the film’s catch phrases is: “Drought, climate change, even war are all directly related to the way we are treating dirt.” A few of the scenarios that play out in this suspenseful documentary are: deadly conflicts breaking out over our dwindling supply of fertile soil, the loss of one-third of the world’s topsoil in the last 100 years and an entire Brazilian rainforest — for the expansion of soil. Through interviews and narration (by Jamie Lee Curtis), DIRT! the Movie, presented by Solar San Antonio, explores the human race’s massive disconnect with soil ? a resource that “may be more alive than we are.” $9, 7:30pm, Alamo Drafthouse Park North, 618 NW Loop 410, (210) 677-8500, solarsanantonio.org.
