Attention gear heads and auto aficionados: there's a new, free two-day event called CarFest in mid-April at the Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum.
Organized by San Antonio's Community of Automotive Professionals (CAP), Alamo City auto mechanics will showcase their skills by repairing 25 vehicles for people in need, who were identified and selected through regional charitable organizations.
This is a double whammy of education and giving, as automative students from NEISD and BISD will work alongside professionals on the repairs, and Alamo Area Boy Scouts will be able to pursue an Automotive Maintenance Merit badge. CarFest also aims to promote job growth by awarding four trade schools $100,000 in cash, equipment and supplies.
Mark Colaw, a CAP member and chairman of the event's development team, says CarFest is a fun way to give back to the community.
"With CAP’s core values of Education, Integrity, Community and Excellence and with the tremendous support of our presenting sponsor Jasper Engines, we are pleased to offer CarFest to our community,” Colaw says in a press release.
There's also an awesome giveaway. Every two hours, there will be a drawing for one of 10 free automobiles that will be given away to attendees, who must be present to run.
There will be plenty to do for car enthusiasts, kids, professionals and regular Janes and Joes alike, including seminars, car clubs, youth interactive areas, consumer educational clinics, automotive trade school displays and retail shopping.
The fun starts Friday, April 15, at noon and runs until 8 p.m. and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, until 6 p.m. Hop over to carfestsa.org for more details.
