Grand Opening: Mission Library

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2011-04-27

Mission Drive-In memories (my personal favorite involves watching circling bats from the bed of a pickup truck during the opening credits for Batman Begins) get a new spin on Saturday, when the 26-acre site becomes the official home to Mission Library, a four-acre, state-of-the-art facility designed with the architecture of the missions in mind. The activity-filled day includes a ribbon-cutting, a performance by children’s author and recording artist José Luis Orozco, and commemorative grand opening library cards for the first 500 applicants. Free, ceremony at 9:30am; ribbon-cutting at 10am; activities and programs from 10am-4pm; Mission Library, 3134 Roosevelt, (210) 207-2704, mysapl.org.
