The Daily Show
host John Stewart couldn't contain his glee last night while covering former Governor Rick Perry's latest presidential bid, which was made official on Thursday
“Omigawd omigawd omigawd,” Stewart exclaimed. “Perry is running for president. Wow, prayer really does work. Gimme more!”
The host mocked Perry's announcement video, which asked Americans to "do right, and risk the consequences.”
“‘Risk the consequences,'” Stewart repeated while laughing. “Maybe the most accurate campaign slogan I’ve ever heard. ‘Hi, I’m Rick Perry, let’s see what happens.'”
Noting how there are now 19 presidential candidates, Stewart also mocked former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee, who announced his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. Chafee used his announcement to advocate for the conversion to the metric system — a critical issue among voters. He pointed out that America is one of the last countries to use the Standard System of Measurement, along with places such as Liberia, to which Stewart responded:
"You want to be our president, yet you don't know we don't give two shits about other countries?"
He has a point.
