Keller Williams built a rep on the jam-rock scene first as a solo acoustic troubadour, then as a one-man band accompanying himself with looping technology. For many, he was most impressive fronting the String Cheese Incident in the occasional Keller Williams Incident performances. Now he’s finally put together a band of his own with SCI bassist Keith Moseley, guitarist Gibb Droll, and ace drummer Jeff Sipe.

This double-CD and DVD release captures the jammy melodic goodness the band brought to the stage in 2008, including spontaneous segues teasing tunes like “Dancing in the Streets,” Porno for Pyros’ “Pets,” and Deee-Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart.” The music is filled with groovy jams and adventurous playing — memorable songs less so. Which isn’t to say Williams can’t write strong tunes of his own, but with a powerhouse band behind him, the focus is on the instrumental aspects of the music. Catch the band’s improvisational prowess live at Antone’s in Austin on February 27.
