With a fresh Grammy nomination for 2010’s Joined at the Hip (the first album to credit them both as bandleaders), Pinetop Perkins and Willile “Big Eyes” Smith return to Sam’s just six months after Perkins’ 97th birthday concert. In the late ’60s, the lifelong friends roomed together while touring with the Muddy Waters Blues Band, with Smith on drums and Perkins on piano. In 1980, they left Waters behind and co-founded the Legendary Blues Band with Louis Myers, Calvin “Fuzz” Jones, and Jerry Portnoy. Three decades later, they’ve still got a firm grip on the blues and aren’t about to let go. Last summer, Smith told the Current, “There’s people that work all their lives to do this for just a short period. So why would I want to retire?” Word to the wise: This is a seated show with some standing room in the back, and tickets are going fast. $20-$25, doors at 7:30pm, show at 8:30pm, Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E Grayson, (210) 223-2830, samsburgerjoint.com, frontgatetickets.com.
