More than 50 years ago, 25-year-old Irene Garza's lifeless body was pulled from a Rio Grande Valley canal in McAllen. She'd been strangled.

Earlier this week, the longtime suspect in the murder, who is now an 83-year-old Arizona resident, John Feit, was indicted by a Hidalgo County grand jury and arrested, The Monitor reported.

The night Garza was killed, Feit was the last person to see her. She had gone to church to make a confession, which he took, according to Texas Monthly

There was plenty of evidence against Feit, including a rope used to bound the woman's hands that belonged to the priest. You can read more details about all the evidence and the story over at Texas Monthly, which has had some fantastic stories on the case over the years.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that Feit will fight extradition to Texas.
