The Current has three finalists for AAN awards.
Three San Antonio Current contributors were picked as finalists for the 2016 Association of Alternative Newsmedia awards, plucked from a field of over 821 entries by 70 publications.

Each finalist was selected by the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland.

Interim art director Sarah Flood-Baumann received a finalist nod in the Editorial Layout category for her "San Antonio Emojis" layout from November:
Former art director Eli Miller received a nomination in the same category for her "Wanted: Shelter" layout:
Former music editor Matt Stieb was named a finalist in the Music Writing category for three pieces: "Finding the Elusive Bob Dylan in the Heritage of SA Music," "Anything for Selenas! Remembering an Icon 20 Years Later," and "An Oral History of Taco Land 10 Years After the Death of Ram Ayala."

The winners will be announced on July 9 at the AAN Convention in Austin.
