Senator Ted Cruz Tops Progress Texas' 'Top 10 Worst Texans of 2015' List (Again)

Senator Ted Cruz Tops Progress Texas' 'Top 10 Worst Texans of 2015' List (Again)
Progress Texas

This list really isn't a surprise — except maybe that Rick Perry's not on it this year.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz was the worst Texan of the year in the list, which is in its third year, a move up from his second place low in 2014.

Progress Texas uses the list to highlight so-called leaders who have pursued bad policy and exhibited shitty behavior.

"There's so much lunacy in politics that it keeps getting tougher to narrow the list down 10 people" Progress Texas Executive Director Ed Espinoza says in a press release. "Everyone gets a fair shot at making the list, but some really go below and beyond to show they are the worst."

Cruz, however, must not be lonely at the top because this is actually his second time as "worst" Texan. Only Governor Greg Abbott has joined Cruz with the dubious distinction of making the list all three years, and both men probably won't be letting up with inflammatory, dividing rhetoric and bad policy anytime soon. Let's just hope Cruz doesn't continue his Cruz-sade from the White House.

So what made Cruz the worst?

Progress Texas says he opposed earned paid leave, raising the minimum wage, student loan debt relief, "favored ending birthright citizenship (um, what?)" and tried to shut down the government to end Planned Parenthood.

"Greg Abbott made a strong run for being the worst by promoting Jade Helm conspiracies and going to battle with faith-based nonprofits," Espinoza says, adding that the person topping the list really earned it. "It's more than just his policies, he is so disliked that even Republicans don't like him."

Here's a quick breakdown of the rest of the worst (Full list here).

10. Donald Trump supporters.

9. State Rep. Cecil Bell Jr., who attempted (but failed) to discriminate against the LGBT community through legislation.

8. Congressman Will Hurd, a freshman legislator who seems to be a cookie-cutter Tea Party type.

7. Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood employee who now wants to see the women's health organization closed.

6. Agricultural Commissioner Sid "Cupcake Amnesty" Miller, who Progress Texas duly notes, surprisingly doesn't work for The Onion.

5. Steve Hotze, who spearheaded the effort to repeal the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance.

4. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, the brains behind open and campus carry.

3. Attorney General Ken Paxton, Texas' top lawman who is facing three felony charges of securities fraud, who also advised county clerks to disregard the Supreme Court of the United States,

2. Governor Greg Abbott, who promoted Jade Helm conspiracies, spread xenophobic sentiment against Syrian refugees and so much more.

1. Senator Ted Cruz.
