Sixth Annual Jammin’ Jams Fruit and Nut Tree Adoption to Be Held at the Pearl

There's always room for more trees in our lives.

You can pick a fruit or nut tree up Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain or shine) during the sixth annual Jammin’ Jams Fruit and Nut Tree Adoption that will run in conjunction with the Pearl Farmers Market in the parking lot adjacent to the Pearl Stable at the intersection of Avenue A and Pearl Parkway.

Event organizers (the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department and the Alamo Forest Partnership) plan to adopt out around 1,250 trees.

The Jammin' Jams Fruit and Nut Tree Adoption is growing more popular every year, and organizers advise arriving early if you want your pick of the trees, which include apple, apricot, fig, lemon, lime, orange, nectarine, peach, pear, pecan, persimmon, plum and pomegranate. 

“The Parks and Recreation Department is committed to promoting its outreach efforts by hosting a variety of community tree adoption events throughout the city with the goal of improving our City’s tree canopy,” San Antonio City Forester Ross Hosea says in a press release. “Jammin’ Jams presents a unique opportunity since all of the benefits that trees provide are achieved but we are also connecting our families to options beyond shade trees while promoting food security.”

There will be experts on hand to advise budding tree owners and there will also be proper planning demonstrations.

All trees are being provided through the Tree Canopy Preservation & Mitigation Fund.
