Tejano Conjunto Festival: Puro Conjunto Pesado

Release Date: 2010-05-12

The 29th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival is in full swing, with events taking place at the Guadalupe Theater and Rosedale Park. Although Friday’s program is nothing to scoff at, we’re most excited about Saturday’s Puro Conjunto Pesado. Why? Well, call us crazy, but we weren’t fully aware of Tejano’s scope until we heard about adorable 18-year old Dutch accordion virtuoso Dwayne Verheyden, who’s coming all the way from the Netherlands to join Saturday’s lineup (Dwayne & the TexMeXplosion goes on at 4 p.m.). Also on the bill is Japan’s Honorio Imamura, who’ll join Corpus Christi’s Linda Escobar y su Conjunto (5 p.m.). Aptly, the night wraps up with the legendary Flaco Jimenez at 11 p.m. For the full schedule, simply turn to page 37. $15, 1pm-midnight, Rosedale Park, 303 Dartmouth, guadalupeculturalarts.org, a 3-day pass for the 29th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival can be purchased for $35.
