Memory is more indelible than ink. — Anita Loos
The year before the Current set up shop, San Antonio saw its first International Woman’s Day March downtown; the year after, the legendary arts pioneer Hap Veltman passed away (and, we might add, Chernobyl blew sky-high, though it didn’t register quite as deeply with locals).
In the 25 years since, we’ve seen two sports arenas erected, the death and rebirth of the Pearl Brewery, and Ozzy Osbourne welcomed back to town after a 10-year sanction for peeing on important architecture.
We’ve seen Toyota and “Keep San Antonio Lame,” Artpace and El Mariachi. And all the while, a spry little alternative weekly has labored to keep pace with it all — in some cases predicting the curves ahead.
As we prepare to launch our commemorative 25-year anniversary issue on June 1, we at the Current would like to hear your best memories of the years we’ve lived through together. Community highlights and lowlights — and those fair-to-middlin’ rambles all your own. (Extra points if you can weave in a Current reference!) But, be warned: you may just write your way into our anniversary ink.
