Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: Jake La Botz: “Tattoo Across America Tour”

Posted By on Tue, Apr 30, 2013 at 1:17 PM

Since dropping out of high school to pursue wilder endeavors (involving drinking, drugging, car theft, punk-rock shows, and hobo camps), San Diego-born Jake La Botz has built an impressive acting resume and released six original albums. Putting into practice techniques he honed in New Orleans, Chicago, and the Mississippi Delta alongside the likes of David “Honeyboy” Edwards, “Homesick” James, and “Maxwell Street” Jimmy Davis, La Botz crafts a brooding brand of blues that falls somewhere in the dark divide between Tom Waits and Hank Williams. Add to the mix roles in the Sylvester Stallone-directed remake of Rambo (aka Rambo IV or John Rambo), Walter Salles’ adaptation of Kerouac’s On the Road, and Ghost Brothers of Darkland County (a theatrical collaboration between Stephen King, John Mellencamp, and T Bone Burnett), not to mention a position as “a senior teacher and certified meditation instructor in the Dharma Ocean Buddhist community” and it’s somehow not surprising La Botz is on a national tour of tattoo parlors. The multitasking bad boy’s “Tattoo Across America Tour” touches down at Element Tattoo Studios tonight. Free, 8pm Tuesday, 4741 Fredericksburg, (210) 979-9877,
