One Night Only: 'CBGB' Movie coming to SA Wednesday Night

Posted By on Mon, Aug 12, 2013 at 4:48 PM

CBGB, the movie about the legendary New York music club, will screen 7:30pm Wednesday, October 23, at the Santikos Palladium and Santikos Silverado 16 movie theatres.

Founded by Hilly Kristal in 1973, New York City's CBGB (which stood for "Country, BlueGrass, and Blues" but is better remembered for its punk and New Wave music) pioneered America’s punk and new wave movement, housing bands like the Ramones, Television, Blondie, and Talking Heads. Telling the story behind Kristal’s Bowery club, CBGB, the movie (directed by Randall Miller), is an homage to the legendary club that closed its doors in 2006 with a Patti Smith concert.

The movie opened October 3 in selected theaters across the nation, and the CBGB: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album came out October 8 with a 20-song collection of staple bands of New York's '70s and '80s underground scene:

"Life During Wartime" – Talking Heads

"Kick Out the Jams (Uncensored Version)" – MC5
